Blues
(Rhys E, Chris, Will, Nathan, To,
Archie, James & Martin)
We had a good start and
game could have gone either way. A chance
shot just slipped through our keeper's
fingers and was followed up by a nice
fizzing cross into the box that St Ives
tucked away well. Disappointing start but we
brushed ourselves off for the next one.
Blues 4 v 0 Hemingford Colts
Just the response we had
hoped for. Chris scored a hatrick with some
wonder strikes and for his 3rd he waltzed
all the way through the opposition to slot
the ball home. Rhys came up and scored the
4th from a nice corner crossed in from
Archie. Certainly was one way traffic and
Tom had a string of chances that just did
not some how find the back of the net.
Blues 0 v 0 Godmanchester "O"
This was a tough
encounter with Tom & Chris rested but the
lads battled really well and fought off a
determined home team. James & William were
valiant in the middle of the pitch and
simply would not give Goddie time on the
ball. This was a 0-0 we were happy to take.
This was our must win
game to go through to the next round and I
still cannot fathom how we just did not
score. I would guess we had 20+ shots - it
was simply not Tom's day; he created so
many great chances only to be foiled by the
keeper or the post or by going just wide. We
thought we had clinched it near the end when
Nathan hit a great strike and everyone
except the ref saw the ball cross the line!
Oh well....play to the whistle as they say.
Martin never even touched the ball in this
game but at the end of the day it is the
goals that count!
______________________________________________
Reds (Isaac, Yegor, Toby H & W, Jack F &V,
Rhys D, George)
The Reds started well and
went 1-0 up through Toby H. St Ives started
to pull together and although Yegor made
some fine saves and George made some
important clearances the boys could not hold
on to their lead. Just as the match looked
as though it would be a very respectful draw
St Ives scored their second to claim the
win.
Reds 0 v 2 Cambourne Eagles
Cambourne looked very strong from the off
and managed to score 2 goals in the 10
minute game.
Unfortunately, the Reds
lost their shape and composure and were 5-0
down before they started to pull together.
The two Toby's linked together and pushed
forward on the right and were unlucky to not
get a corner. However, from resulting the
goal clearance Jack F went round 1 defender
and the keeper to get us a consolation goal.
Little Paxton ended the game with their 6th
goal.
Red 1 v 0 Stukeley Meadows
The boys finally lifted
their game and came out fighting. Rhys D put
an excellent ball into the box and Jack V
managed to tap it in past the keeper. The
final minutes of the game were as nail
biting as could be with Stukeley pushing for
the equaliser. All Red players were deep
in their own box defending as Isaac was
called into action to clear the ball on the
goal line and take a painful knock for his
endeavours. The game finished a well
deserved 1-0 to the Reds.
Winners
- the final was between St Ives Reds and
Goddie O (both from the Blues pool), after a
stunning semi between Goddie & Priory A that
was 0-0, even after extra time and went to
penalty shoot out on the 10th penalty Goddie
won! The eventual winners in the final
though were St Ives Reds, winning 2-0. A
great result for Richard & his team, who the
Blues are entertaining on the 21st June
again.

(Away League game) 17th May 08
Ramsey Colts 0 - 2 Brampton Spartans U9's
Blues
We always have a good, well
conducted battle with Ramsey and
this weekends last fixture of the
season was no exception. We spent
much of the first 15 mins in our
half, defending the pressing home
side. Rhys and Ross held back the
onslaught and William was required
to make some important saves. We
were a bit sleepy to start with and
also very quiet with no-one talking
to each other - the period ended
0-0. The next 15 mins saw the Blues
come out firing on all cylinders
Archie, Jake & Tom worked well
together as a unit with some nice
movement of the ball but we lacked
that final shot or took 1 too many
touches but created some great
chances for ourselves. The deadlock
however was broken by Chris who had
a fantastic strike from the half way
line that saw the ball sail over the
opposition including the goalie to
bulge the net - awesome! Archie
unfortunately came off worse in a 1
on 1 challenge for the ball that
twisted his ankle and came off with
5 mins to play. The 3rd period saw
much of the same with good movement
from both sides. Ramsey tried to do
what Chris had done with a
speculative long range shot, however
William safely steered the lob away
from goal. A free kick to the Blues
saw the boys push forward and Chris
curled the ball around the Ramsey
wall and into the top corner of the
goal; 0-2 to us and some much needed
breathing space.
The final period saw Ramsey pressing
to get a goal back but our defensive
team did a superb job and managed to
keep them out. Nathan nearly scored
a wonder goal with an outside flick
of his left boot from just inside
their half, but the keeper saw it
coming. The game concluded to our
relief and pride at what was a great
final performance for the season. A
really enjoyable game against a
strong opposition who were very
sporting and made us feel welcome as
always.
MoM went to Jake
who never stopped chasing the ball
both in attack but also covering
back in defence when needed.
Squad: Ross,
Nathan, Rhys, William, Chris, Jake,
Archie & Tom

What
was probably our biggest game of the
season did not disappoint from the
commitment and determination that the
boys showed. However, the result eluded
us.
Both
teams started very strongly with a
couple of near chances each end
during the first period that ended 0-0.
The tempo continued during the second
period with Ross (in goal) having to
clear a ball that spun along the goal
line. Tom was unlucky not to take the
lead, firstly as he hit the post and
then a few minutes later as his shot
went behind the keeper but was cleared
by the Priory defence. Although,
Spartans controlled much of the period,
Priory took the lead as a long distance
effort eluded our defence giving them a
1-0 lead. During the third period Priory
started to press forward and were denied
by a great block from William. However,
a few minutes later an excellent chip
just dropped under the bar to give
Priory a 2-0 lead. The third goal was
gifted to Priory after a momentary drop
in concentration from Spartans with a
sloppy kick off. The last dramatic
action of the game as a second great
block from William as he was left at the
back with two Priory players pushing
forward. During the game Rhys was very
strong in defence and made some great
headed clearances. Natham, Jake and
Archie all worked hard in the midfield
and constantly put pressure on Priory
forcing them to try many long range
shots.
MoM
could have gone to the whole team as
this was a very determined and gutsy
performance. However, it went to Chris
Hartley who had an excellent game
especially when he was in the central
midfield position.
Squad: Ross, Nathan,
Rhys, William, Chris, Jake, Archie & Tom

This was
another 7-a-side game for the reds
in preparation of next season and
once again the boys stepped up to
the mark and did not disappoint. The
boys unfortunately went 1-0 down
early in the game. However, they got
the sort of luck you need in a
football match as their pressure in
the opposition box forced St Ives
to put the ball in the back of their
own net. Spartans continued to
put push forward as Isaac made a
blistering run down the left wing
going around 2 players before he
delivered an excellent cross that ST
Ives pushed out for a corner. Early
in the second half St Ives scored
their second goal. However, this
just inspired James to push for the
equalizer as he went on a run down
the left wing going around two
defenders before slotting the ball
in the top right corner. Isaac (in
goal) was called into action as he
pulled off a fine save. James then
broke to score his second in almost
an identical fashion to his first to
take the Reds 3-2 up. St Ives pushed
for the equalizer and were first
denied by the post and were then
denied after George made an
excellent run back to clear off of
the line. Toby H emulated James's
earlier runs on the left as he went
around 2 defenders and the keeper
before passing the ball across the
goal mouth. Unfortunately, three Red
players failed to put the ball
away. The miss was academic as the
boys recorded another win against a
league team. This game was not
always pretty, but was played with
grit and determination with all of
the boys lifting their game.
Highlights
of the game other than the report
above include a great save from
Isaac following a St Ives free kick.
Excellent running on the right wing
by Jack V. Rhys D and Yegor working
consistently hard with dedication
throughout the game. George in his
usual composed manor in defence.
Some excellent runs from Toby H.
Jack 'the rock' M producing another
strong performance in defence. James
Shaw put on an excellent performance
and scored 2 great goals.
MoM
went to Michael. who put on his best
performance of the season as he put
together some lovely passing moves
as well as some timely clearances
from the defence.
Squad:
Isaac, George, Rhys D, James, Yegor,
Jack V, Toby H, Michael, & Jack M

(Away League
game) 3rd May 08
Little Paxton 7 - 4 Brampton Spartans U9's
Blues
Both
teams started strongly with some
great passing movement. Paxton
managed to take the lead following a
defensive error. Shortly after we
responded and Tom scored his first
of the game to bring the game level.
However, Paxton were able to score 2
more before Tom scored his second
from an Archie corner to end the
first period 3-2 down. Archie got on
the score sheet for the second week
running to bring the game level with
a powerful strike into the bottom
right hand corner of the oppositions
goal, before Paxton managed to go
4-3 up. The third period saw Paxton
take a 3 goal lead (6-3) before
Spartans scored their 4th gaol
through Archie once again curling in
the ball from his own corner kick.
Unfortunately, the final period
ended with a seventh goal (OG) for
Paxton giving them a 7-4 home win.
This was
one of our heaviest defeats of the
season with Paxton playing some
excellent passing football.
However, luck was clearly not on our
side for three of the goals
following (simple goal keeping and
defensive errors and a
very unfortunate own goal). The boys
had bounced back well from the 2-2
draw the previous week playing some
great football once again with just
a bit of consistency eluding them on
the small pitch.
MoM went to Rhys
for a very composed performance in
defence.
Squad: Ross,
Nathan, Rhys, William, Chris, Jake,
Archie & Tom

For the third time
in as many weeks we took on this new team
who have some good players and a strong
goalie, as we found out! The first period
started very lively from both squads with
much ground being covered on the 7-aside
Brampton pitch. We defended well with the
George & Jack M defensive unit looking very
strong again. The first goal came from a
well delivered thrown in from George into
space behind the line of defence, which was
pounced upon by Jack F who tucked away the
loose ball. Some nice movement of the all
saw us command the first half and we had a
number of other chances that we couldn't
quite tuck away. The second half was a
different encounter altogether and St Ives
came right back at us and we looked very
nervous and shaky as the clock wound down.
Isaac was left in no mans land as the
attackers broke through our defensive line
on 3 or 4 occasions but he managed to pull
out some wonder saves. It was only a matter
of time before the equaliser came, and was
certainly well deserved.
A really enjoyable
game again for all the lads. Won't mention
the penalties at the end of the game other
than to say I think we need more practice at
hitting the target!
MoM
awarded to Isaac for an outstanding
spell in goal, pulling off some great saves
that kept us in the game.

James, Yegor, Jack F, Toby W, Michael & Jack

(Away Friendly game) 26th Apr 08
St Ives Rangers U'9s Reds 2 - 2 Brampton
Spartans U9's Blues
The first period was a lack lustre
performance from the Blues with St
Ives controlling much of the game
and taking a 1-0 lead. During the
second period the Blues started to
pull together with the introduction
of Archie and Nathan. St Ives
went 2-0 up from a set piece during
the 3rd period. However, this only
helped to kick the Blues into
action. Archie scored his first goal
from wide on the right with an
excellent strike. His second goal
came in the last period as he
followed up on a spilled ball to tap
it into the back of the net.
Although this was not the sort of
performance that we know the boys
can produce, it was good to see them
come back from the 2-0 deficit.
Yegor made some important saves and
both Rhys and Chris worked hard when
in defence to ensure that St Ives
did not increase their score line.
Nathan was unfortunate to not get on
the score sheet following a
excellent header from a Rhys goal
kick. Rhys could have also got on
the score sheet (if it were not for
one of those annoying FA rules that
states that a goal kick has to be
indirect) as a further goal kick
evaded all on the pitch and screamed
into the back of the net.
MoM unanimously went to
Archie for his two goals and an
excellent all round performance. He lead
by example from start to finish. Nice
hair Archie!
Squad: Yegor, Nathan,
Rhys, William, Chris, Jake, Archie & Tom

This was arranged at the last minute
as the away leg of the previous
weeks fixture that had ended 0-0. We
managed to rustle enough players to
take on St Ives at their place on a
proper 7 aside pitch which allowed
us much more space to play the ball
than last week. The game started
slowly as both sides tested each
other out with some good runs and
shots at goal from both sides. The
deadlock ended when James made a
darting run through on goal to net
our first. This was followed 10 mins
later by a through ball from Jack F
to Jack V who was playing high up
the pitch - Jack V took on the
keeper and despatched the ball very
confidently. The first 25 mins ended
0-2 to us.
The
second 25 minutes saw goals galore.
James chalked up his second goal
early on in the period, only to be
neutralised by St Ives as we failed
to clear our area. Jack V then put
us back in the lead with another
well finished move only to be
cancelled out again by St Ives from
a long range "wonder" shot. We then
had a strong period of play with 2
more goals from James (1 was
deflected in but as James did all
the work for it I awarded it in his
favour) along with 1 from Jack F.
Our defence was very strong with
Isaac in goal for the whole game
sorting out much of the trouble that
came at him. George and Jack M /Luke
also tidied up well once again and
Rhys D had some good runs up the
wings and also made some good
clearances. This genuinely was
Luke's last game for us as he goes
to Oz next week - good luck again
Luke.
MoM awarded to Jack
V who has demonstrated in the short
while that he has been playing for
us that he has a knack for finding
the back of the net.
Squad:
Isaac, George, Jack V, Rhys D,
James, Jack F, Luke & Jack M

(league game) 19th Apr 08
Brampton
Spartans U9's Blues 2 - 0 Godmanchester
Rovers Youth A U9's
Our first
league game since 1st Mar saw us take to
the field against a strong (and tall)
Goddie team who have had some strong
results this season including victories
against Ramsey & Sawtry as well as a
draw against Priory A. With William away
we had to improvise on the goalie front
with Nathan and Ross stepping up to the
mark and just 1 substitute.
From the
start it was apparent this would be a
tight fixture with both teams moving the
ball around from end to end. Some good
moves from both teams but due to strong
defence at both ends neither squad were
able to get the break through. The first
period ended 0-0. The second period
looked to be going the same way but
for a great strike from Chris from long
range that bounced awkwardly for the
Goddie keeper, with the ball passing
under his foot to find the back of the
net, ending the period 1-0. A free kick
by Tom just outside the box saw us
nearly grab a second with the ricocheted
follow up. The first half of the final
period ended 0-0 however Goddie had a
great chance as they managed to break
through our defence on a counter attack.
Their striker took the shot but Ross
valiantly threw himself at the ball
striking him in the brow to deflect the
ball just around the post for a
corner....phew! We found the net again
in the final period with a great move
where Chris twisted around a defender
and put a lovely ball through to Nathan
who was having a try out as striker.
Nathan hit the ball first time and
blasted it into the goal. A second
nearly followed but we were denied by
the woodwork. The final half of the last
period ended 1-0 to us and it was
certainly a relief when the final
whistle went.
MoM
went to Rhys who was so solid for us
in defence, tidying up all the loose
ball, acting as a shield for countless
Goddie shots and generally for a very
consistently high performance.
Squad: Ross, Nathan, Rhys, Chris,
Jake, Archie, Tom

The
Reds played 7 a-side against a newly
formed St Ives team of some 18
players who have played only a
handful of games. It seems
astounding that with all the action
that went on during the game there
was not a single goal - boring this
game certainly was not! We had
numerous shots at their goal and I
lost count of how many goal mouth
scrambles St Ives managed to clear,
but some how we just could not put
the ball away. Toby H had some great
charging runs covering much of the
pitch on more than 1 occasion but
all his endeavour was nullified by
some excellent goalkeeping by St
Ives. James was causing trouble
upfront but again that final shot
just seemed to evade us. A free kick
by Luke almost made it but again
bodies were thrown in the way with
some stout St Ives defending. Jack V
also had some nice shots cut out
from their intended target. The
visitors had a number of their own
chances too and came at us in
numbers but thankfully George tidied
up much that came his way as well as
Isaac & Yegor (taking it in turns)
between the sticks who were required
to make some important saves. Well
done all the lads for your endeavour
and at least a clean sheet. In the
98 (yes 98!!) games we have had in
the past 2 years of mini soccer we
have never had a 0-0 game.... until
now!
MoM
awarded to George for some excellent
defending when out numbered by
the opposition on a number of
occasions.
Squad: Isaac, Yegor,
George, Jack V, Rhys D, James, Toby
H, Luke

This week
George (defence) and Yegor (goalie) from the
Reds were drafted in to help out the Blues.
A sleepy first 15 mins saw some mediocre
football from us, with the visitors taking
the advantage however our one good piece of
play during the period saw Chris, Tom and
Jake linking up well and attack the goal
with Jake slotting in a spilt ball to go in
1-1 at the break. With a few substitutions
the second 15 mins saw a much more
commanding performance from the boys. Ross
pushed up following a run from deep within
our own half to slot home a well struck
strike. This was followed up by Tom who was
proving very lively upfront and creating
lots of opportunities. Bluntisham got one
back, but another blistering run from Tom
down the left wing, punched the ball into
the box which was half cleared but Archie
somehow chipped the ball up and over the
keeper to end the period 3-1. The next 7.5
mins saw Ross make a rare appearance as
striker, linking up with Chris, William and
Archie well to slot home for 1-0. Yegor made
some impressive saves in goal and was alert
to any danger. The final 7.5 mins saw some
great football and George did a superb job
in defending - not only making vital tackles
but also coolley
delivering accurate passes for his
mid-fielders to pick up. Tom slotted home
once again, only to be matched by a
determined Bluntisham. However the final
goal came following another run from Tom,
that was hit jointly into the net with
Archie. (Awarded to Tom as he set up the
shot!). After a shaky start we really picked
up well and put in a great game. Well done
lads.
MoM went to
Ross with his brace of goals - doubling his
goal tally for the season to date.

|
|
|
The first
period saw Spartans twice come back from
being a goal down. The first Bluntisham goal
was a shot that was deflected in. However,
Spartans responded well and soon drew level
after a break by Jack F left Toby H with a
simple tap in. Bluntisham re-took the lead,
but once again Spartans responded with some
good attacking moves. Jack V saw the second
of two shots in a couple of minutes hit the
back of the net ending the first period 2-2.
Spartans took the lead in the second period
after some great footwork around the box
from Jack F ended with a goal for Yegor.
Bluntisham would have levelled the game if
it wasn't for Toby making a fine save,
pushing the ball onto the bar. Spartans were
able to take a two goal lead after George
skilfully lobbed the goal keeper from the
half way line. Bluntisham pulled the score
back to 4-3 after a very well worked corner
and then levelled the game to 4-4 through a
strong counter attack. Both teams continued
to play well but neither was able to score
the winner during the final 15 mins of the
game. A great game to watch with end to end
action.
MoM went to
Toby Herbert for a good all round
performance on pitch and in goal and
positive attitude throughout.

|
|
|
After a
two-week break (and too many late
nights!) the Blues started very
sleepily. Alconbury capitalised on
Spartans slow start by ending the first
period 2-0 up. The boys picked
themselves up and started to play the
flowing football that we know that they
can produce. The highlight of the second
period was some lovely linking play
between Tom and Jack Findlay (Jack was
bolstering the numbers in the absence of
Rhys), ending with a clinically taken
shot by Jack, hitting the back of the
net. Unfortunately, the game was put out
of Spartans reach when Alconbury went
3-1 up during the third period.
Although, this was our first defeat
against Alconbury this season, there
were still some very good aspects to
our game. We used this friendly match to
experiment with positioning as well as
our usual rotating of keepers during
friendly matches (thanks to Nathan,
Archie and Chris).
MoM went to William for the
determination that he demonstrated
throughout his time on pitch, covering a
lot of ground for his team-mates and
some fine tackling at vital moments.

Brampton Spartans U9's Reds 5 -
2 Brampton Spartans U9's Reds
(friendly
game) 29th Mar 08
Due to
Easter holidays we had a depleted squad
and so thanks goes to Tom, Nathan,
William & Archie from the Blue squad for
making up the numbers (as well as to
Jack Snare and Will for helping out as
goalies for us!). Jack Mitchell, James,
Archie & William (Blues) therefore took
on Toby Herbert, Yegor, Tom & Nathan
(Oranges). Some great runs and moments
of interplay by both teams saw an end to
end encounter. Tom blasted a number of
shots at goal, only to be foiled by his
brother in goal. There were braces for
Tom, James & Archie as well as a solo
goal from William. The split of the
games was 1-1 (James/Tom) / 2-1 (Archie
& James/Tom) / 2-0 (Archie & William) /
0-0.
MoM
went to Jack the Rock Mitchell for his
solid and strong performance in defence
despite having 3 attackers he always
seemed to come out with the ball.
Thanks
again to all who were able to make it.

|
Brampton Spartans U9's Blues 2 - 3 St. Ives
Rangers S (friendly game) - 8th Mar 08
A really
promising start saw Brampton with much of
the possession in the first 15 mins. Some
nice interlinking between Chris and Nathan
on the wings with Tom as striker saw a
number of chances created as the St Ives
goal was tested a number of times. The
deadlock was finally broken when Chris put a
penetrating ball into Tom near the box who
laid of for Nathan who hit a really sweat
left footed shot into the back of the net.
Jake did a sterling job in goal keeping a
clean sheet for us. The second period
carried on at rapid pace, but St Ives took
the initiative and made us pay for some poor
defending with 2 fairly soft goals. The lads
carried on battling and Ross and William
managed to repel further challenges.
The third
period saw us apply a bit more pressure and
a after some battling up front, Jack Findlay
(on loan from the Reds Squad) managed to
force a corner. This was taken by Archie who
curled in a lovely corner strike that
deflected off a defender and into the net to
bring the scoreline to 2-2. Just before the
end of the period, St Ives came back at us
and an attack at the corner pulled Rhys out
to defend deep to clear the danger. St Ives
saw their opportunity and piled into our box
leaving Chris (in goal) out numbered to hit
home for the winning goal.
The final
period saw a goalless conclusion to a great
game. Jack Findlay had a few breaks but the
St Ives formation with 2 defenders across
the back was hard to break down. Rhys did
some sterling sweeping up at the back as
usual.
MoM went
to Ross for his tenacity in defence - a
great display, making some vital tackles
when needed.
Also of
note was our penalty shoot out at the end.
We put away most of our shots with some very
fine finishing by the lads. One sad point
was the injury Rhys suffered from his
innocuous shot which blasted the net. He
ended up pulling a muscle and limped away
clearly in some pain. We wish you a speedy
recovery Rhys - just as well he has a few
weeks rest now anyway!

(friendly game) - 8th Mar 08
Brampton Spartans U9's Reds 3 - 4 Brampton
Spartans U9's Reds
A training game saw the Yellows (Michael,
Rhys, George, Luke, Toby H & Isaac) take on
the Oranges (James, Jack V, Jack M, Yegor,
William & Archie). It was hard for anyone to
get into the first period as the game was
stop start all the way with injuries and
undone shoe laces a plenty! Despite this,
the Oranges took the lead with a well worked
move from defence, feeding the ball to Jack
V who slammed home a great goal. Yellows
replied well though with a Toby H free kick
special that beat the keeper.
The second period saw Archie score his first
goal of two in the Red's game -
unfortunately he took one to many steps
backwards in goal with the ball in hand
gifting the Yellows an own goal. (Bit harsh
of the ref I thought!!). Will managed to get
one back for the Oranges with a bouncing
ball that the keeper couldn't quite get to,
leaving the game tied at 2-2.
Period 3 saw the game kick into life and
some fine end to end action. Archie scored a
belter from just inside the Yellows half to
beat the keeper making up for his previous
misdemeanour, followed up by James weaving
his way through the defence to give the
Oranges a 2 goal lead. This was however
pulled back to 1 as Luke ran out of his
defence and slammed home for the Yellows.
The final period ended up 0-0 so that in the
end the Oranges were victorious 4 -3.
Certainly was a close run game and the lads
all gave a good contribution and the game
was played in a good manner.
MoM was awarded to James for some great runs
for the Oranges - well done James (sorry no
photo as battery ran out on camera!). Luke
was a well deserved runner up.

Brampton Spartans U9's Blues 5 - 1 Bluntisham
Rangers (league game) - 1st
Mar 08
A bright, blustery
morning saw us take on Bluntisham at their
pitch in Earith for the return leg in the
league. We had a superb 1st period with some
great play from all the lads. Chris put on a
bursting run up the right wing, running
almost the whole length of the pitch - most
players would have tried a cross but Chris
belted in a goal out wide on the wing from a
tight angle; awesome solo effort. This was
quickly followed by another which was well
worked up the left wing by Nathan, threading
the ball to Tom who crossed for Chris to tap
in for his second. Sustained pressure from
Brampton saw 2 more great goals from Tom who
was starting to look much more comfortable
in the striker role weaving around the
defenders.
The second period
saw Jake & Archie take to the field and both
were able to quickly pick up the pace of the
game and made good contributions. Archie
continued with his new found determination
and made a great run up the right wing from
deep inside his own half only to be thwarted
by the superb Bluntisham goalie, however Tom
pounced on the loose ball to make his
hatrick. Ross and Rhys did a great job
through out the game mopping up in defence
and were able to repel much of the attacks
thrown at them - William also did a sterling
job in goal and, although he did not see
that much action, he responded well when he
needed. After the third period we still had
a clean sheet; however just before the close
of the final period the hosts managed to get
a well deserved consolation goal with an
aerial shot up and over Will - he managed to
get his finger tips to it but the pace took
the ball into the goal.
This was one of our
strongest performances of the season with
some awesome interplay amongst the lads.
Confidence was high and the attached photo
shows how much the lads enjoyed it. Full
credit must go to Blunty who didn't make it
easy for us and kept coming back at us.
Their keeper was very impressive pulling off
some great saves to keep his team in the
match.
MoM went to Tom for
his hatrick and creativity in front of goal.

Brampton Spartans U9's Blues 2 - 0 Alconbury Colts
(league game) - 23rd Feb 08
A new look formation
saw Tom take up the striker position and William
granted a full 45 mins in goal, releasing Ross
back out on pitch doing what he does best. We
had much of the possession in the first 15 mins
and created some lovely darting runs and great
interplay, making lots of opportunities.
Alconbury defence was strong though and we just
could not quite break through. The second period
saw the pace continue and our defensive
formation similarly looked very tight with Rhys,
Ross as the rear guard & William in goal and we
repelled the opposition a few times without too
much pressure. The deadlock was finally broken
towards the end of the second period when Jake
put a ball through for Tom to run on to who in
turn put a blistering shot into the box that was
spilt by the keeper. This was snapped up by
Archie who had followed up on the shot to slot
home our first. The second goal soon followed by
some creative work from Chris and Tom again with
Chris chalking up yet another goal for the
season. The final 2 periods saw lots of good
moves again and Nathan battled on despite a
picking up a number of injuries and we managed
to maintain a clean sheet.
A good game to watch in
which we looked strong and created some great
chances. MoM was credited to Archie who put in a
great personal performance, showing a passion
and determination to win the ball and scoring
the first

Brampton Spartans U9's Reds 1 - 1 Stukeley
Meadows - 23rd Feb 08
Early Jan we lost 3-1
to Stukeley and so this weekend was chance for
redemption. The first period saw both teams
testing the other out and both having chances.
Isaac pulled off a couple of important saves to
keep the scoreline at 0-0. Some interlinking in
the second period saw us pressurise the Stukeley
goal and a curled in ball into the box
was slashed at by the Stukeley defence resulting
in an OG in our favour. We had much of the
possession this period so it was probably a fair
result. Stukeley managed to regroup and despite
an initial good piece of goalkeeping from us, a
dropped ball was snapped up for the equaliser in
the third period. The final period ended 0-0 and
so the end result was a well deserved 1-1 draw.
Stukeley put on a solid defence and whilst we
commanded much of the possession we struggled to
break thorough their back line. A reat game and
all the lads gave a good account of
themselves.
MoM went to Luke for
his battling and adaptability playing in at
least 3 different roles.
