U8s Friendly – Brampton Spartans 2
Somersham Town Youth Blue 1
In a game of few chances, Brampton
Spartans worked hard to earn victory over a well
organised Somersham Town Youth Blue team. The majority
of the game was played in the middle of the park, with
both midfields vying for supremacy and on the occasions
when chances fell to the strikers some excellent
defending prevented any real shots on target. However,
it was Somersham who took a first period lead, through a
well taken goal created on the left and finished from a
tight angle. It wasn’t until the third period that the
Spartans managed to draw the game level. The goal came
direct from a corner, by Will Brackley, helped by a
slight deflection. The equaliser seemed to lift the
Spartans and in the fourth period a well struck shot, by
Toby Le, from the edge of the area, found its way into
the top corner of the Somersham net.
Spartans man of the match was Josh
Matcham for his tireless work in midfield and up front,
together with some nice interplay with other members of
the Spartans team.
Squad: Josh Matcham (MofM), Jack
Newman, Demi Dixon, Will Brackley, Nathan Wadey, James
McKeating, Thomas Thackray, Matthew Ortyl & Toby Le

Friendly –Brampton
Spartans 4 Buckden Youth 3
A closely contested match between two
well organised teams saw Brampton Spartans having the
slight edge and winning this friendly match by 4-3.
The first period saw the Spartans
take a two goal lead, with a brace from Will Brackley,
the pick of the goals being a well struck free-kick from
the edge of the area into the top left hand corner.
Spartans finished the first period 2-0 to the good.
The second period saw Buckden attack
from the whistle and an excellent individual strike by
the Buckden striker within 15 seconds of the kick-off
pulled a goal back for Buckden. Buckden then got more
into the game and it wasn’t long before their dominance
was rewarded with a second goal to draw the sides’
level. Spartans then began to start to get back into the
game and some excellent midfield work from Josh Matcham
and Matthew Ortyl, set up Toby Le, who was unfortunate
not to score. Spartans had James McKeating to thank for
a solid and commanding second period display in goal.
The second period finished 2-2
The third period saw the Spartans
moved into the lead with an excellent goal, following
some nice build up play, that saw Josh Matcham slot the
ball in for close range and that was followed by an
individual goal by Thomas Thackray put Spartans into a
4-2 lead, only for Buckden to fight back and the period
finished 4-3 to Spartans.
The fourth period finished in
stalemate, but some excellent work in midfield from both
Nathan Wadey and Demi Dixon created a number of chances,
but unfortunately Spartans were unable to build upon
their lead.
Spartans man of the match was awarded
to Jack Newman for yet another commanding display in the
heart of the Spartans defence.

of the period, where the Rowdies scored two goals to

Friendly – Alconbury
Colts U8s 3 Brampton Spartans U8s 4
A solid all round display saw
Brampton Spartans grind out a 4-3 victory, in this
friendly match, away at Alconbury.
The first period was
predominately played in the midfield with both
midfields working hard to gain possession to try and
create an opening for their respective strikers.
Spartans did manage to create a couple of good goal
scoring opportunities, but were unable to convert
their chances.
The second period proved to be
more fruitful in front of goal for the Spartans and
well work move, down the Spartans left, ended with
an inch perfect cross for Nathan Wadey to slot the
ball home. Despite Nathan’s well taken goal, the
Spartans finished the half all square at one a
piece.
The third period saw the game
really come to life, with two goals from Alconbury,
only for two well taken goals from Spartans Josh
Matcham and Toby Le to cancel out the two Alconbury
goals, with the period finishing 3-3.
With everything to play for, the
fourth period was end to end, but victory went to
the Spartans with a well taken goal by William
Brackley, scoring from the tightest of angles.

U8 Friendly –Brampton
Spartans 7 Little Paxton Colts FC 4
Both teams played some nice, neat
passing football during this friendly match, that
saw the Spartans run out 7-4 winners. The game began
well for the Spartans, as they moved into an early
2-0 lead, but by the end of the first period Little
Paxton had drawn level at 2-2.
During the second period Spartans
increased their lead to 4-2, though Little Paxton
were always a threat and the Spartans had to work
very hard to hold onto their two goal advantage.
The third period saw a goal a
piece from both sides making the score, at the end
of the period 5-3.
An early goal in the fourth
period by Little Paxton heaped the pressure on the
Spartans, but the Spartans responded extremely well
to score two further goals, to make the final score
7-4.

U8 Friendly –Brampton
Spartans 4 Warboys Colts 2
Brampton Spartans found
themselves 2-0 down, in the first period, to two
break away goals from Warboys. Spartans work hard
throughout the first period, without really
threatening the Warboys goal.
The second period saw a much
improved Spartans side take the field and two well
taken goals by Toby Le, pulled the score back to
2-2. As the Spartans pushed forward in the second
period, gaps were appearing at the back, but Jack
Newman and James McKeating worked extremely hard to
ensure that Warboys were not able to take advantage
of the space.
The third period was dominated by
the Spartans, with the majority of the period played
in the half of Warboys, who defended extremely well,
only to concede a well worked goal from the William
Brackley. James McKeating picked the ball up in his
own half, played a nicely weighted pass to Thomas
Thackray, who crossed inched perfect for William
Brackley to slot the ball into the net to make the
score 3-2.
The fourth period saw Josh
Matcham go close on a number of occasions, but
Nathan Wadey put the game beyond all doubt, with a
fine strike to make the final score 4-2.

U8s Friendly –Brampton Spartans 6
Alconbury Colts 2
Both teams had to endure and
coped well with the extreme weather conditions
throughout the match. The first half saw the
Spartans kicking with the wind and although they
were dominant they were unable to capitalise on this
domination and the first half finished 0-0.
During the second half Alconbury
used the wind to their advantage and scored two
goals. Spartans struggled against the wind, but did
well to keep Alconbury’s scoring just to two goals,
with some strong defending by James McKeating and
some tenacious midfield work by Matthew Ortyl.
The Spartans began the third
quarter in defiant mood, playing some exquisite
passing football, that lead to goals from Nathan
Wadey, Demi Dixon and William Brackley. A couple of
long range efforts by Jack Newman just went wide of
the goal could have increased the Spartans
advantage, but the quarter finished 3-2.
The fourth quarter saw the
Spartans extend their lead with two well taken goals
from Thomas Thackray and a solo effort by Joshua
Matcham, that made the final score 6-2.

U8A – Ramsey Colts A 3 Brampton Spartans 1
Brampton Spartans produced a
magnificent performance, full of commitment, skill
and passion, against a well organised Ramsey Colts A
team, despite conceding two late goals and losing
3-1.
Spartans began the match
strongly, battling for midfield supremacy against a
good Ramsey side, but it was Ramsey that created the
first shooting opportunity, but Jack Newman produced
a wonderful double save to deny the Ramsey striker.
The first half midfield duo of Matthew Ortyl and
Nathan Wadey, worked tirelessly throughout the game
to deny Ramsey any clear goal scoring opportunities.
When Ramsey did get sight of the Spartans goal they
met the no nonsense defending of James McKeating.
It was in the second period that
Spartans fell behind to a well worked Ramsey goal.
Jack Newman had been producing quality saves
throughout the game, but was unlucky to be beaten by
a shot low to his right. Spartans immediately
responded with a well worked move, involving Thomas
Thackray and Josh Matcham that resulting in Josh’s
shot being saved by the Ramsey keeper.
The third period saw Spartans
draw level. An excellent individual goal by William
Brackley, beating two player, before shooting low to
the keepers right and although the keeper got a hand
to the shot he was unable to keep it out.
Direct from the fourth period
kick-off, Ramsey went back into the lead, with this
long range effort. After that the heads of the
Spartans player dropped and Ramsey scored a quick
third goal to make the final score 3-1. Spartans
never gave up throughout the game, and deserved at
least a draw for all their efforts.
Spartans man of the match was
awarded to Jack Newman for a solid game in defence,
but more so for his excellent goalkeeping display.
