Huntingdon Rowdies Youth 0 - 6 Brampton Spartans
Blue's U10s - league game
(20th Dec 08)
The weather was
much improved allowing last weeks cancelled match to
be replayed at Jubilee Park and it was good to see
Spartans back to their winning ways. Tom managed to
slot home the first within just a few minutes
followed by a second from Archie with a flick of the
ball in the box from a searing cross by Chris. Jack
had a long range shot that the keeper just couldn't
quite hold on to for the third. The final goal of
the first half came from a cross in by Rhys into the
box which Chris flicked on with his head to find the
back of the net. George & Rhys both worked well
protecting Grady at the back and Nathan did some
great work on the left wing as well as covering back
to help out his colleagues when needed.
The second half saw
a gritty performance by the home team and we
struggled to break through. It was a closer
contested period and Rowdies came at us a number of
times. Grady had several occasions when the
opposition were bearing down on him but he made
several excellent saves to ensure a clean sheet was
maintained. All this time Jake was working like a
terrier in central midfield and regularly went into
a tussle with the opposition but came away with the
ball and then put in some excellent passes to his
forwards. Archie crossed a nice ball in from the
right wing which Jack slotted in well and the second
came from Tom with a great strike of the ball from
outside the box to find the top corner of the net.
A really pleasing
result after several disappointing games in recent
weeks. Everyone worked for each other and we had
some great passing and the players were composed
when under pressure, making intelligent passes
rather than just hoofing the ball away! We had
numerous chances to score a fair few more goals but
full credit goes to the Rowdies keeper who made some
superb saves.
MoM
- almost unanimously went to Jake. He
really put in maximum effort and cover a lot of
pitch at lightening speed to help both his forwards
and his defence. Great to see Rhys back from injury
who even managed a number of runs from out of
defence right up to the opposition box!
Squad - Grady,
Rhys, George, Nathan, Jake, Jack F, Archie, Chris &
Tom

Spartans Blue's U10s 1 v 3 KC Cougars
A - friendly game
(6th Dec 08)
For the first 10 mins the
Blues dominated the play and looked very composed.
The Blues took the lead when George picked out Chris
on the left and Chris tucked the ball into the box
for Tom to hit the back of the net. Cougars started
to come back at Spartans and pushed for the
equaliser. Cougars were rewarded before the end of
the first half after a goal line scramble found its
way into the back of the net. Although William and
Ross defended well at the back the Blues lost their
shape and always looked like conceding a second
goal. However, against the run of play Jake found
himself up the oppositions end of the pitch,
one-on-one with the keeper. Unfortunately the
inform Cougars keeper pulled off a great save and
the rebounded shot from Chris went just over the
bar. Cougars deservedly scored two more goals to win
the game comfortably 3-1.
The result was all the more disappointing
considering how brightly we started. With the whole
squad out we had lots of changes which probably
didn't help matters but when we played as a team and
passed the ball around we did look very sharp and a
match for anyone. Unfortunately, it was only seen
fleetingly. Let's hope for an all round team
performance next week in the last game before the
Christmas break.
Squad - Grady Bruce, Chris Hartley,
Nathan May, Archie Smith, Jake Winterburn, Tom
Snare, William Dines-Allen, James Shaw, Jack
Findlay, George Kelly and Ross Sales
MoM - Archie
Smith for some good runs down the wing and timely
passes.

Brampton Spartans U10 Reds 0 v
3 St Ives Rangers Blue Friendly Game
(6th Dec 08)
Although St Ives started very
strong they could not get through the resilient
defence of Jack M and Michael. After the first 15
mins of St Ives domination of the game the Reds
started to play some great flowing football with
Jack F firstly setting up Emma who saw her shot
deflected for a corner. A few minutes later Jack F
broke free on a counter attack and fed the ball
through to James who shot just wide of the post.
James and Jack F linked up again as James got height
on a corner and Jack F's header went wide. Although
Martin had made some excellent saves in the Reds
goal, St Ives managed to snatch a goal to finish the
first half 1-0 up. The Reds came out looking for the
equaliser from the kick off and came close through
an Isaac corner that James connected with, but the
keeper once again pulled of a great save. Although
Will's (helping out in goal for the Reds) pulled off
some fine saves during the second half, St Ives
managed to score two further goals to end the match
3-0 winners.
This was by far the best
performance from the Red's this season and
they deserved to have got something against their
league opposition. With a little more focus and
communication between the team, I am sure that a
victory is not far away. Well done - the whole squad
played well; a real team performance.
Squad

Veazey, Emma Stevenson, Michael Hazle, William
Dines-Allen, James Shaw, Jack Findlay and

Always a tough
fixture and this one didn't fail to live up to
expectations. Ramsey had a couple of early shots
that went wide of the goal before the Blues put
together some excellent linking play between
Nathan, Chris and Tom. Unfortunately our shots
were either straight at the keeper or wide of
the mark during the first 30 mins. Grady was
called into action and made a number of fine
saves to keep as at 0-0 at the end of the first
half.
The second half
saw a similar battle however Ramsey caught us on
the break and slotted home a well worked goal.
We similarly had our chances with some great
breaks out of our half and a number of lovely
crosses from the right wing that went straight
into the opposition goal area however luck was
just not on our side as we just couldn't connect
with that final shot. We gave Ramsey a soft
second goal and just couldn't get one ourselves
resulting in the end score 0-2. This gave us a
good taste of what to expect in our 2nd round
cup game against Ramsey on 24th Jan. All told we
were pleased with the performance as the lads
all really worked hard and we had a number of
players who had just back from illness. Next
time if we apply the same endeavour but are a
little sharper then we stand a good chance.
Squad -
Grady Bruce, Chris Hartley, Nathan May, Archie
Smith, Jake Winterburn, Tom Snare, William
Dines-Allen, James Shaw and Ross Sales
MoM -
Chris Hartley: he battled away well for the
team in defence and snuffed out many of the
oppositions attempts to break into our half.
Runner up was Nathan for some wonderful
passing/crosses.

The Reds started very strong
and put on some of their best passing of the season
and went 1-0 up with a lovely chip from Isaac that
lobbed the keeper. The Reds continued to extended
their lead with a brace of goals from Nathan and a
goal late in the first half from Jake (both were
helping make up the numbers for the Reds). However,
some of the best play came at the back with George
and Jack M linking up well and Martin making some
fine saves.
From the start of the second
half the U9s looked more composed and soon pulled
the game back to 4-3 before Isaac netted his second
after a great pass from Jack V. There was a dramatic
end to the game after some poor defending left
Nathan exposed in goal for the U9s to score two
quick goals securing a 5-5 draw. It was a real shame
not to get our first win of the season after such a
promising start to the game. We gifted the
opposition some of the goals in the second half and
need to work on our KO's and try to remain focused
for the whole game! Even so a great effort and
pleasing performance by the squad and so nice to see
us scoring some goals again.
Squad
-
Isaac Matcham, Jack Mitchell, Jack Veazey, Rhys
Dobson, Nathan May, Jake Winterburn, George
Kelly and Martin Uy
MoM -
Jack Veazey, for some great running off the ball
and some well timed passes. Special thanks to
Nathan & Jake for making up the numbers and
helping out after already playing for the Blues
on a cold day. Hope you both managed to defrost!

If ever there was
a game of 2 halves it was this one! Conditions were
challenging with a fierce biting wind blasting
across the pitch. The first half saw a very
lethargic Spartans squad lacking in passion, drive
and desire - we were not making tackles, not passing
to feet, not getting back to defend - apart from
that it was fine! Needless to say we soon found
ourselves 3-0 down. Fortunately Nathan managed to
save our blushes and put a nice predatory strike
away from the left hand side of the box however
Goddie managed one more leaving us with a 4-1
deficit.
Whether it was the prospect of going home, the lads
waking up, a change of positions (or an inspired
half time team talk!), the second half saw us play
some much better footie. We started to do what we do
best and passed the ball around. Whilst we conceded
a further goal early on, we responded well and Tom
quickly wracked up a hatrick with some good solo
work as well as from some fine passes from his team
mates, making the score 5-4. You could sense the
opposition were starting to get rattled and it very
much looked like we would go on and win the game
however with us pushing forward for the final goal
we were caught on the break for Goddie to extend
their lead 6-4. We didn't give up though and Archie
scored from a tight angle on the right of the box
making the score 6-5. We battled away and had a
number of shots that just would go in but sadly we
ran out of time losing 6-5.
As we always say to the lads it is not the result it
is how you play. The second half showed just what a
great team we can be when we play football and
focus. It was a tremendous come back showing great
resilience but unfortunately the first half left us
with too big a gap to close ....but we gave it a
really good go. Well done boys....eventually!
MoM - Ross Sales for some excellent
defensive work - he battled away tirelessly even
when out numbered.
Squad - Grady Bruce, Jack Findlay,
Chris Hartley, Nathan May, Archie Smith, Jake
Winterburn, Tom Snare and Ross Sales

Unfortunately, for the second game in a row the Reds
went down 8-0 with the split 4-0 each half. The
score line did not reflect the effort
and commitment that the team gave as they put on one
of their strongest performances of the season. This
was especially true in the second half as they only
conceded 1 goal in the first 20 mins of this half.
Unfortunately, luck was not on our side and we
conceded 3 further quick goals towards the end of
the match. Although the Red's put on some excellent
passing moves they were once again let down by a
lack of consistency. Once we can improve on this
aspect of the game I am sure that we can carve out
some results. In fairness the Ramsey squad were
strong and they had 4 of their A league players in
the team and they moved the ball around well. We
were a bit depleted on numbers too, being without
George, Martin, Lia & Toby.
Squad Isaac
Matcham, Jack Mitchell, Jack Veazey, Rhys Dobson,
Emma Stevenson, James Shaw, Archie Smith and Michael
Hazle
MoM Rhys Dobson
- This was fairly
unanimous as Rhys gave 100% through out the game
and made some great runs on the left wing as
well as taking on the opposition and regularly
coming away with the ball.

Round Hunts FA
Cup Match
Brampton
Spartans Blue's U10s 4 V 2 Bluntisham Blasters Reds (15th Nov
08)
Our first encounter in the
Hunts FA Cup saw us away against a well
organised Bluntisham team. The first half saw
some good passing moves by the Spartans however
we struggled in the final 3rd of the pitch to
put the ball away as Bluntisham defended well
and got bodies behind the ball making it
difficult to find the net. The deadlock was
broken though when James, in his first official
Blues game, found space on the right wing to
slot the ball past the keeper with a clinical
finish. Bluntisham however soon found the
equaliser catching us on the break to end the
first half 1-1.
The second half saw us have
some good possession but Bluntisham hit a rocket
from outside the box to blast into our net. We
were then chasing the game with just 15 mins to
go and you could feel the tension rising in the
crowd as the clock ticked. No second chances in
a cup game! After a few attempts, Tom saved our
nerves by threading a ball through 3 defenders
to even the score up to 2-2. An Archie corner
went fizzing into the box and Jack chested it
into the net to take us to 2-3 and this was
shortly followed up by another cross into the
box from Archie that Nathan managed to put away
finishing the game 2-4 to us.
A pleasing performance
from all the boys who all really worked
hard for each other. No one had a bad game,
everyone's contribution helped the cause - we
had spells of some superb passing and
creativity. In reality we were unlucky not to
put a few more away but to their credit our
opposition defended well and always got players
in the way to frustrate our efforts.
MoM
was a tough call. Chris,
Ross & Jack F all picked up a couple of votes
each for their work rate and dedication to the
cause, however MoM went to Grady who pulled off
some fine saves to keep us in the game. Photos
attached as usual.
Squad
- Grady, Ross, Will, Chris, Jake, Nathan, James,
Archie, Tom & Jack F.
Our 2nd round fixture will
now be at home on 24th Jan against Ramsey who
beat Huntingdon Rowdies convincingly 14-2
yesterday. We play them in the league in a
couple of weeks time so we can get a feel for
them. The toughest draw of the 1st round saw St
Ives Reds knocked out by Priory L 3-1. If we
beat Ramsey then we are likely to face them
(providing they get through their 2nd round).

Brampton
Spartans Blue's U10s 2 V 8 St. Ives
Reds (8th Nov
08) - Home Friendly
Match
Both teams started brightly and
created early chances. Spartans pushed forward with
some lovely linking play on the left between Chris,
Nathan and Jack. James also had a great run on the
right as he went round three players and picked out
Chris who saw his shot saved by the keeper. Jake and
William battled hard resulting in Wills being taken
off with a head injury. St Ives came close to taking
the lead on several occasions and kept Grady busy in
goal. However, the first half finished 0-0. The
Blues went a goal down early in the second half with
a soft own goal. This kick started St Ives who
manage to dominate the second half and score a
further 7 with some lovely passing moves. Spartans
scored two consolation goals through Chris and
Archie. However, the Blues lacked composure in the
second half and failed to defend as a team being
caught on the break several times.
The game was marred by Rhys
having to be taken off for a recurrent injury which
resulted in a make shift reshuffle of the squad. We
wish him a speedy recovery - he was certainly
missed.
The Blues will have to pick themselves up and lift
their performance (which they are more than capable
of doing) as they take on Bluntisham in their first
cup game on Saturday next week!
Squad
Grady Bruce, Will Dines-Allen, Jack Findlay, Chris
Hartley, Nathan May, Archie Smith, Jake Winterburn,
James Shaw, George Kelly and Rhys Everett
MoM
Chris Hartley - Chris worked hard throughout the
game and lead by example as well as notching up one
of the Blues goals.

The Reds
like the Blues started well, and were unlucky to be
2-0 down at half time (unfortunately Alconbury's
first was another own goal). The first half saw
Isaac playing in the central midfield role where he
managed to dominate the middle of the pitch and
nullify much of the oppostion's attacks. Isaac also
came close to scoring the Reds first goal in three
games as he fired a shot from outside the area into
the top right hand corner of the goal.
Unfortunately, the Alconbury keeper was on form and
pulled off an excellent save. The second half was
similar to the Blues second half where we failed to
work and defend as a team. The game ended a very
disappointing 8-0 ish (unfortunately we lost count
of the score as they were going in thick and fast).
Thanks to Tom with a guest appearnace as he went in
goal for the first half and pulled off some fine
saves. Alconbury were well drilled and in fairness
did include a number of their main team players so
we were always going to have a tough encounter on
our hands.
Squad
Tom S, Martin Uy, Isaac
Matcham, George Kelly, Jack Mitchell, Jack Veazey,
Rhys Dobson, Toby Whithead, Emma Stevenson, James
Shaw, Lia Richardson and Michael Hazle
MoM Isaac
Matcham - This was fairly unanimous as like Chris
for the Blues Isaac lead by example and gave 100%
through out the game.

Brampton Spartans Reds U10s
(1st Nov 08)
- Home Friendly
Match (30 mins)
The reds
put on a strong defensive performance and kept the
Blues at bay for the first 18 mins of the 30 min
match. However, the first goal came from an
Archie free kick that was tapped in at the back post
by Rhys. Tom scored a brace of goals, the second
being a superb solo effort, to end the game 3-0. The
Blues really moved the ball around well but
similarly the Reds gave them a good run for their
money.

Meadows (1st Nov 08) - Home Friendly
Match (30 mins)
Stukeley found themselves 1-0 up after an awkward
bouce of the ball elluded Grady and hit the back of
the net. The Blues were soon on level terms however
when Jake picked out Tom with an excellent pass and
Tom tapped in his first. Tom was once again on the
score sheet as he scored his second. William scored
the Blues third after a goal mouth scramble and the
4th was from Ross with a well struck effort.
MoM

were first goals of the season for Rhys, Will &
Ross.

Spartans Reds U10s 0 V 6 Stukeley Meadows (1st Nov
08) - Home Friendly
Match (30 mins)
Although the Reds started strongly they
unfortunately lost their shape and frequently left
stand-in goal James exposed at the back. Even though
James pulled off some excellent saves, the Reds went
down a disapointing 6-0. There were some moments
when players linked up well with Martin, Emma &
Isaac having some good breaks into the Stukeley goal
area but we just couldn't convert the opportunities.
We will address further on the training gorund.

Brampton Spartans Blue's U10s
5 V 2 Alconbury Colts A (11th
Oct 08) - Away Friendly Match
Within 2 minutes of the start of the
match Tom had a shot pushed against the post by the
Alconbury keeper, however
Spartans did not have to wait long before they found the
back of the net, with 4 minutes gone Tom put the ball in
from wide on the left for Chris to tap in. Alconbury
pushed for the equalizer and were denied by the post.
William had a speculative shot
from within the centre circle that was put out for a
corner. The resulting corner saw Chris head the ball
just wide of the post. Alconbury once again came close
to equalising as Grady pushed the ball against the post.
Archie picked out a great pass to Chris who was
one-on-one with the keeper and picked out the perfect
shot to score his first. Spartans scored their third on
20 mins as Tom went on a run down the left and
clinically tucked his shot into the
corner of the goal. Grady was once
again called into action as he kept out a goal line
scramble. Tom scored his second in the best move of the
match as Chris headed the ball into the box for a simple
tap in. Chris secured his hat trick as he went on an
excellent solo run down the left and picked out a
precise shot into the bottom left hand corner of the
Alconbury goal.
The first half saw some excellent
linking play between Tom and Jake on the left as well as
Grady and Ross at the back.
The second half saw Ross take on the
challenge of playing up front. He was unlucky to not get
on the score sheet as he took a free kick that went just
wide on the post. It was good to also see Rhys & George
back, having spells on the pitch and both coped
admirably. Alconbury pulled two back in the second half
to end the game 5-2. A great game of football from
Spartans against a team that have been unbeaten in the B
League so far this season.
MoM - Tom picked up
the award for his Brace of goals as well as some great
linking play through the game.

Brampton Spartans Reds U10s 2
V 6 Alconbury Colts B (11th Oct 08)
- Away Friendly Game
James started brightly and found him
self one-on-one with the keeper who denied an early
Spartans goal. Alconbury nearly took the lead but were
denied twice in quick succession by Martin in goal.
Alconbury's first was scored by our very own 'on loan'
Archie to end the first half 1-0 up; it had been a close
contest. The second half was dominated by Alconbury who
were 4-0 up before Spartans pulled one back through
James shaw. Unfortunately the next Alconbury goal was
scored by another on loan Spartans player as Grady had a
rare appearance on the pitch. The final goal of the game
came as Emma picked out Martin
who powered the ball into the back of the net.
After last weeks battling performance
we just lacked that bit of sparkle this week however, as
always there were some really positive moments and good
touches by all. Jack M & George continued their strong
pairing in the first half which was reflected in the
scoreline at half time.
MoM - Martin for a
superb performance in goal in the first half and a
nicely taken goal in the second half.
Squad: Martin, Isaac, Jack M, George,
Jack V, Rhys D, Emma & James
Thanks must also go to Nathan, Grady,
Archie and William for going 'on temporary loan' to
Alconbury for the game against
the Reds (and foregoing pitch time for the Blues to keep
them fresh).

Spartans Blue's U10s 1 V 3 Priory Parkside L
(4th Oct 08) - Home
League Match
Spartans were unlucky to not
come away with a draw from a closely fought
match against the old Priory A team. Although
the first half saw some excellent defensive work
from Ross, Spartans were 2-0 down before they
pulled a goal back. Nathan tracked back to win
the ball wide on the left and fed it through to
Jake who in turn picked out Tom with an
excellent pass through the heart of the Priory
defence. Tom notched up another goal for the
season as he picked out the back of the net. The
second half was just as closely fought with the
only goal securing the Priory win.
MoM
was closely contested between William and Ross
who both gave 100% commitment throughout the
game. However, the trophy goes to Ross for an
outstanding defensive performance.

Brampton Spartans Reds U10s 1 V 2 Somersham
Gold (4th Oct 08)
- Home Friendly
Game
The first half ended
0-0 with neither team being able to break the
deadlock. Spartans came close to taking the lead as
James curled the ball into the top left hand corner
only to be foiled by the woodwork (sounds more
romantic than plastic!). Somersham scored their
first goal against the run of play and a short while
later doubled their lead to 2-0. Spartans managed to
pull one back as George's corner was knocked back
out to him on the right and he blasted it into the
back of the net.
This was Toby
Herbert's last game for the team and we wish him all
the very best at Buckden with his school mates. He
finished in fine style with a very well taken
penalty in the shoot out at the end of yesterday's
game.
MoM
was once again closely contested between two
players, James and George. James proved to be a real
handful and was very unlucky to not get on the score
sheet . However, the trophy goes to George for an
excellent performance in central midfield and a
wonderfully taken goal.

Brampton Spartans Blue's U10s 3 V 2 St Ives Reds
(27th Sept 08) -
Friendly Match
Away
For the second week
running the Blues started well. However, this
week they found the consistency that has been
lacking so far this season. They were playing as
a team and put together some lovely passing
moves. George was playing his first Blues match
of the season and made a great contribution to
sure up our defence. Unfortunately however, the
boys went 2-0 down at the end of the first half
after some well worked corners from St Ives.
The Blues came
out fighting at the start of the second half and
pushed forward to pull a goal back. Within a few
minutes Archie had a speculative shot from near
the half way line which bounce awkwardly in
front of the keeper and ended up in the back of
the net. Archie's second goal was a cool tap
in from close range with his left foot after he
had been set up by Jack Findlay.
The game nearly
took a dramatic twist after two goal line
scrambles within a few seconds of each other
with Grady and Chris clearing the ball from the
goal line. The ref could not decide whether to
award the goal and the game was halted as she
took views of those near the action. To the
relief of the Blues a goal kick ensued. St Ives
nearly re-took the lead as they hit the post and
then were denied a shooting opportunity within
the box after a well timed tackle from William.
The game was finally won in the last few minutes
of as Tom, Jack and Nathan pushed forward ending
with Nathan tapping the ball into the back of
the net to secure the 3-2 victory.
Although the
result was encouraging, it was the way that the
boys played that was impressive. Every player
gave a solid performance, but it was the team
that won the game.
MoM
for the first time was shared between two
players, Archie and Jake. Archie picked up votes
for his brace of goals as well as some excellent
passing and Jake got his votes for some
wonderful linking play and great positioning off
the ball and tireless work rate tracking play.
Pictures attached - it was foggy!

Brampton Spartans U10s Blues 3
- 6 St Ives Rangers S
(20 Sep 08) -
League game away.
Spartans started well and put
together some lovely passing moves early in the game
and showed some good promise. Unfortunately, after
poor defending of the back post from three
successive quick corners St Ives went 1-0 up. St
Ives pushed forward and doubled their lead before a
strike from Tom hit the post. Spartans scored their
first after a free kick from Chris was knocked on by
Jake and deflected in for an own goal.
Although Tom and Nathan both got
on the score sheet in the second half St Ives
managed to score 4 more to win 6-3. However, credit
has to go to Ross some important defending and Grady
for some fine saves.
This was a disappointing result
as the boys did not play to their ability for long
periods of the game and we were reliant on
individual performances rather than a team effort
which is what was needed. Our next league fixture is
in 2 weeks against Priory L (FKA Priory A) so we
will have to make sure everyone is up for the
challenge for the next game.
MoM went to
William for another committed performance and
leading by example.

Brampton Spartans U10s Reds 1 - 5 Stukeley Meadows
(20 Sep 08) -
Friendly game away
The first half was dominated by
Stukeley who bagged 4 goals. However, the highlight
of the half was some wonderful linking play from
James and Emma, with James scoring the Reds only
goal. During the first half the Reds did not show
the commitment required with either going in for the
tackles or heading the ball. However, the second
half was a much more determined team performance and
a better defensive partnership with Jack M &
George working well together. The Reds were unlucky
not to score more as there were several goal line
scrambles. Stukeley however did manage to score one
final goal to win 5-1.
MoM went to Emma

strength and skills with the ball.

Brampton Spartans
Blue Squad 4 - 3 KC Cougars A (13 Sept 2008)
Cougars started brightly and were soon 1-0 up.
Spartans managed to level about 15 mins into the
game with an excellent free kick from Chris Hartley
that went straight into the top right hand corner of
the goal from 20 yards out. Chris set up the next
goal leaving Jack Findlay to tap in from close
range. However, Cougars managed to score two more to
re-take the lead. Jack F scored his second from an
Archie Smith corner and Tom Snare scored the final
goal for Spartans to win 4-3.
It was a bit of a shaky first half but the second
half saw a more composed performance from the lads
and we created a number of chances.
MoM - William was runner up for the
commitment and work rate. However, the winner was
Jack F for a fine performace
capped with a brace of goals.
Squad - Grady, Will, Jack F, Chris,
Nathan, Ross, Archie, Tom & Jake

Brampton Spartans Red
Squad 1 - 2 Brampton Spartans U9s
(13 Sept 2008)
First game of the season for the Reds saw them
pitted against the strong U9 squad. We certainly
looked a little rusty in the first half and were
caught dozing a few times. The U9s were unlucky not
to take the lead after hitting our woodwork 3 or 4
times. Defending from George and Martin kept us in
the game with the first period ending 0-0. The
second half saw a better performance from the Reds
and we took the lead with a strong run and goal from
Toby H, chalking up his first of the season. This
was soon matched by the U9s, scoring their 2 goals
to win the game.
We just needed a little more compsoure on the ball
at times but we did managed some nice passing moves
all the same giving us something to build on.
MoM went to Martin
for an impressive game in goal and some fine runs
out on the pitch. Nice one Maritn - especially as it
was his first game for the squad (as it was fro
Grady the week before).
Squad - Martin, Isaac, George, Jack
M, Toby H, Jack V, Rhys D & Michael

Godmanchester Rovers 1 - 2
Brampton Spartans (6/9/2008)
Start of a new season, new match format (2 x 30 mins), a
new playing surface (on the Hinchingbrooke School Astro),
Grady up against his former team mates - challenging
circumstances it has to be said! From the first
touch it was apparent that Goddie meant business and
they came right at us from the off. Our defence were
well tested all game - Grady made numerous superb saves
from powerful strikes that kept being launched into our
area; ably supported by Ross as main defender who dealt
with much that came at him.
Chris scored the first goal in game from a great run and
this was followed by a cool second goal from Tom
following a nice run from Jack Findlay with a wonderful
lay off. Goddie pulled one back with 20 mins to go we
had to hold on to the slim lead. Nerves were tense and
nails were bitten but eventually the final whistle blew!
It was a small pitch and the game was end to end as a
result. We did have some good chances, as did Goddie but
it is only the ones that go in that count!
We
were a little rusty and Goddie just would not let us
play our passing game but we ground out the result -
that's what good teams do! Well done all the lads on
their first league game of the season and the first win.
MoM
went to Grady who certainly kept us in the game with
some excellent reflex saves not to mention the pressure
of playing against his school mates and former team
mates. Ross was the runner up for his excellent work in
defence, standing in for the injured Rhys.
